Avery Yara London is an Okinawan (Uchinaanchu) islander with roots in Naguu and K'taaku. He is a rising junior at Pomona College, pursuing a dual bachelor's in Linguistics and International Relations. His research centers on indigenous language reclamation and language sovereignty through oral histories, both within traditional homelands and displaced diaspora. Avery is the co-president of the Native Indigenous Student Union and the Pasifika Student Association at the Claremont Colleges. He also interns with the Native Indigenous Resource Center and the Asian American Resource Center at Pomona. Beyond academia, Avery is active in community organizing and cultural engagement as a board member of the Northern California Okinawa Kenjinkai. He loves frying andaagii, practicing yeesaa dance, creative writing, and learning his heritage languages of Uchinaaguchi and Yambarukutuuba.
