Alexander Clayton is a Ph.D candidate in History at the University of Michigan. His doctoral dissertation, The Living Animal: Animating Nature in the Colonial Menagerie, examines the growing trade, display, and study of animal life in Britain and North America from the mid-eighteenth to the late-nineteenth century.
