Sarah Pearlman Shapiro received her PhD in History from Brown University in December 2024. She studies the intersection of gender, medicine, and violence in the eighteenth century. Her project examines women’s communities of care in the face of both routinized and punctuated violence of Revolutionary New England. Her research has been supported by the American Philosophical Society, the Boston Athenaeum, the John Carter Brown Library, the Massachusetts Historical Society, the New England Regional Fellowship Consortium, and the William L. Clements Library.
