T.S. Eliot (1888–1965) was a leading modernist poet of the 20th century. His poems explored themes like mental struggles, loneliness, the passage of time, death, and the downfall of modern culture. He was also a respected literary critic, editor, essayist, playwright, and publisher. In 1948, Eliot was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
