Linus Carl Pauling's (APS 1936) Words of Wisdom

Category / Department

“If you want to have good ideas you must have many ideas. Most of them will be wrong, and what you have to learn is which ones to throw away.”

Linus Carl Pauling (1901–94) was a chemist, physicist, and peace activist. He is the only person to receive two unshared Nobel Prizes, earning the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1962 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1954 for promoting peace amid the Cold War nuclear arms race.
