Ivan Pavlov (1849–1936) was a Russian neurologist, physiologist, and surgeon best known for discovering classical conditioning through experiments with dogs. He led the Institute of Experimental Medicine in Russia for 45 years, and worked diligently for scientific reform. For his work on digestion, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1904.
