David S. Saxon's (APS 1989) Words of Wisdom

Category / Department

“If education is going to do its part, we must leave behind the peculiarly American assumption that the whole world speaks—or ought to speak—our language, literally and metaphorically.”

David S. Saxon (APS 1920-2005) was an American physicist and educator. Described as a “native of academe,” Saxon was a college professor and served as President of the University of California. He was a lifetime believer in their great missions of teaching, research, and public service.

Since 1743, APS Members have sustained its mission—speaking out with conviction that intellectual inquiry and critical thought are inherently in the best interest of the public. Check back weekly for their words of wisdom.
