Over these past weeks the Society has hosted a number of exciting virtual programs, and we look forward to resuming this programming when appropriate. Now our attention is rightly focused on mourning the senseless loss of an innocent life and reflecting on the difficult, necessary conversations and actions we must all take to begin to ensure that such tragedies end. Joining the Fray: Mapping a World of Paine

2015
Center for Digital Scholarship

This digital gallery was created by the Center for Digital Scholarship.

This graph contextualizes a selection of digitized cartoons, portraits, and broadsides from the Colonel Richard Gimbel Collection of Thomas Paine Papers.

The reception, reputation, and reactions to Paine are charted in Joining the Fray: Mapping a World of Paine. Particular attention is paid to the printers and publishers who often risked their safety to make these works available, as well as the members of extra-parliamentary associations demanding reform in the age of Paine.
