Let's talk about developmental editing! Whether you are an established or aspiring author, a publishing professional, or an interested member of the public, you're invited to an evening about the big-picture editing that makes for better publications.
On Wednesday, October 22 the APS Press is hosting its fifth publishing salon of the year. Join us for refreshments, networking, and a panel discussion with four knowledgeable editors from the Philadelphia area: Rachel Kobin, Shana Murph, Jeanette Fast Redmond, and Chris Urie.
The event is free to attend, but registration is required. Upon registering for the event, your email address will be added to a mailing list for news about future publishing salons.
Publishing salons are held every other month on a variety of topics related to the publishing industry. Please contact Allison Cadle at [email protected] with questions.
Panelists
Rachel Kobin’s early career spanned an array of industries, including Film and Television, Manufacturing, and Biotechnology. In each role, supervisors lauded her strengths as a writer who adeptly distills complex narratives into concise statements. Heeding their insight and expanding on her lifelong study of the elements of story, she began devoting more energy to writing. She founded the Philadelphia Writers’ Workshop in 2011 to help local writers cultivate their talent. As novelists and memoirists contract Rachel for developmental editing, they discover her empathy and passion as she guides them toward the optimal expression of their original vision.
Shana Murph is a creative entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience as a writer, editor, and proofreader. She’s the author of Prepping for the Bookshelf: Master Planning Tips and Publishing Strategies for Indie Authors. An avid painter, Shana also enjoys traveling, spa days and good storytelling. She’s a member of the IBPA, the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and the Philadelphia Watercolor Society.
Jeanette Fast Redmond (FastEditing LLC) has been a development editor, copyeditor, proofreader, writer, and wearer of other publishing hats since the late 1900s. She spent more than a decade as an in-house editor at a major Catholic organization before launching her full-time freelance business in 2011. Today she provides editorial and publishing services for publishers, nonprofits, and individuals seeking to publish both scholarly and general-purpose projects, with special preference for topics related to social justice, liberal arts, religious studies, and instructional design.
