The Philadelphia story that changed the world
Dr. Baruch S. Blumberg, Nobel Laureate and proud Philadelphian, saved hundreds of millions of lives around the world. To commemorate what would be his 100th birthday, and to celebrate World Hepatitis Day, the American Philosophical Society and the Hepatitis B Foundation are organizing a community forum. Join us for an exploration of the real Philadelphia Story: how Dr. Blumberg and his team make groundbreaking scientific discoveries, and how Philadelphia has become the global center for hepatitis B research and public health.
The community forum will be held in-person at Benjamin Franklin Hall in Philadelphia on July 29th from 12pm-3pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to walk through history, with an exhibit of Dr. Blumberg’s scientific and honorific artifacts.
The Forum includes a keynote presentation from Mr. Mark Thompson, CEO of CNN Worldwide and former CEO of the New York Times, followed by a panel discussion. There will also be a light reception and chance to engage with the speakers, local scientists, and public health practitioners who continue Dr. Blumberg’s legacy. The conference is free and open to all, but registration is required to attend – please register by July 24th.
