As of July 6th, APS offices are open to staff and invited visitors. The Society will remain closed to the public for at least the rest of the summer. Library & Museum staff now have access to our collections and will respond to reference and photoduplication requests as soon as possible. However, please note that response times may be delayed due to increased demand. The Society will continue a robust slate of virtual programs throughout the summer and fall. Read more about virtual programming and resources that can be accessed remotely. For further information on the APS reopening and its COVID response, please click here.

Adopt-A-Book Program

The history of the American Philosophical Society’s Library is one of intellectual pursuit, civic spirit, and private philanthropy.  Many of the works in the Library’s remarkable collection of 13 million pages of manuscripts and 250,000 books came as gifts from generous and public-minded Members and Friends.  The tradition of giving remains strong today.  By making a contribution to the Society’s Adopt-a-Book program, you can help us purchase materials we might not otherwise be able to acquire.

Your tax-deductible Adopt-A-Book donation allows the APS to continue to build the collection and preserve it for future generations.  Book adoptions will be acknowledged with a permanent, personalized bookplate in your selected item, as well as in our Report to Donors.

For more information, please contact Linda Jacobs at 215-440-3434 or ljacobs@amphilsoc.org.
