The Second Pennsylvania Geological Survey (1874–1889), led by J. Peter Lesley, produced dozens of geographical reports, maps, illustrations, and atlases. With the oil industry booming, Lesley was especially interested in Pennsylvania’s coal, iron, and gas resources.
