ADOPTED: Four Gospels, Acts, Genesis, and Exodus (Chapters 19 and 20), Translated into the Winnebago Indian Language (1907)
Translation of the Bible became a significant project of the American Bible Society’s missionary work with the Winnebago in the early 20th century. This particular translation was the work of John Stacy, who became an assistant to Missionary Jacob Stucki after the latter arrived in Wisconsin in 1884. The volume adds to the APS’s large and growing collection related to Indigenous languages in North America.
