Collage of Lewis & Clark Journals

Before embarking on his famous westward exploration, Meriwether Lewis came to Philadelphia. As a hub of science, knowledge, and diplomacy, this city had everything he needed to lead a successful venture. The American Philosophical Society (APS) also had everything he needed. In fact, Lewis learned and gained skills and equipment from many members of the APS!

Come join the APS in the Jefferson Garden for free activities dedicated to the brave explorer and his corps! Make journals, learn about botany, and see some famous figures throughout the afternoon. Activities provided by the APS, Bartram’s Garden, and the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology and special appearances coordinated by Historic Philadelphia, Inc.

This is a free event from 11:00am – 3:00pm. Guests are welcome to stop by for any amount of time throughout the program. Disclaimer: pictures will be taken throughout the program. These will be used by the APS to promote future programs and offerings. If you do not wish to be photographed, let us know.
