Transactions of the American Philosophical Society
The Transactions is a highly respected series of monographs that each year includes five manuscripts on any scholarly topic. The first Transactions was printed in 1771 and included papers on the Transit of Venus and the Gulf Stream.
Memoirs of the American Philosophical Society
The Memoirs, a second series of monographs, was first published in 1937 and includes books of various lengths in many scholarly disciplines.
Proceedings of the American Philosophical Society
The Proceedings is a quarterly journal that includes papers read at the APS’s biannual meetings, independent essays sent to the APS by outside scholars, and biographical memoirs of APS Members. The first volume of the Proceedings appeared in 1838.
Lightning Rod Press
The print-on-demand Lightning Rod Press series started in 2008. Works on all scholarly disciplines are made available for individual sale to the public.
The APS Yearbook
The APS Yearbook includes a list of Resident and International Members, the President's Annual Message, the Report of the Executive Officer, and reports from each APS department. The Yearbook is a Members-only publication and is not available for sale to the public.
Special publications are printed for specific scholarly titles that are important for research purposes.
Biographical Memoirs of Members of the American Philosophical Society
The APS reprinted selected memoirs of Members from a specific field in the Biographical Memoirs of Members of the American Philosophical Society series from 2010 to 2015. This series has been discontinued, but volumes can still be purchased.
