Tribute/Named Gifts
Leon and Joanne V.C. Knopoff
The Leon and Joanne V.C. Knopoff Library Resident Research Fellowship was endowed by Dr. and Mrs. Knopoff to support Library Fellows working on-site in the Society’s history of science collections, with preference for the physical sciences, including mathematics. Dr. Knopoff was Professor Emeritus of Physics and Geophysics at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Robb Fund
The Walter L. Robb Symposia for Promoting Useful Knowledge were established by Dr. Robb to reflect the Society's founding mission, namely to share “Observations….which if well-examined, pursued and improved, might produce Discoveries….to the Benefit of Mankind in general.” Emphasizing science, technology, medicine, and engineering, the symposia may also include the social sciences and the humanities.
Glaser Fund
The Robert Joy Glaser Fund for the Library was established by Dr. Glaser for support of collections in the history of science, particularly biomedical science. Income from this endowment supports the acquisition, conservation, and digitization of such collections.
Goldstine Grant
The Herman Heine Goldstine Lectureship was established by friends and family in memory of the Society's Executive Officer from 1985-97. He was one of the original developers of ENIAC, the first of the modern electronic digital computers.
