Abstract

Audio recordings recorded by William N. Fenton.

Scope and content

This collection consists of audio recordings made or collected by William N. Fenton. These recordings were separated from the William N. Fenton Papers (Mss.Ms.Coll.20) and cataloged as a stand-alone collection. The majority of the recordings were made at Six Nations of the Grand Rivers, Allegany Seneca territory, or Tonawanda Seneca territory. The majority of these pertain to Haudenosaunee ceremonies and are restricted due to culturally sensitivity. The collection also contains Fenton's research with Chauncey Johnny John on Seneca place names on the Allegheny River, his conversations with Klamath history with Tom Lang (in 1950), recordings of Blackfoot songs and dances (also in 1950), and recordings from the Indian Summer School Dance Program in Santa Fe, featuring singers from various tribes in New Mexico and Arizona (also in 1950).

Digital objects note

This collection contains digital materials that are available in the APS Digital Library. Links to these materials are provided with context in the inventory of this finding aid. A general listing of digital objects may also be found here.
