Scope and content

The American Society of Human Genetics archives fill approximately 14 linear feet of official correspondence pertaining to meeting, members, and other Society business from 1948-1981. The archives and papers include a collection of photographs from the International Congress of Human Genetics held in Israel in 1981. One especially interesting item is a scrapbook of the Society's early years kept by Herluf H. Strandskov, University of Chicago professor who was the Society's secretary-treasurer during that period. It begins with a "historical note" on the founding and first meeting of the Society and its election of officers. This "note" was printed in the Mendel Newsletter, 15: 5-6 (1978).

The collection is arranged into seven series: Series I, Constitution and Minutes; Series II, Officers; Series III, Membership; Series IV, Committees; Series V, Annual Meetings; Series VI, Travel Grants and Awards; Series VII, Miscellaneous.
