Abstract

These papers concern the investigation into Boas' alleged connections with the Communist party. The continuation of the files beyond the date of Boas' death most likely resulted from similar investigations into the activity of Boas' outspoken son, Ernst Boas.

Background note

Franz Boas was an American anthropologist, studied the Eskimos and Northwest Coast Indians, and held positions at Columbia University and the American Museum of Natural History.
