 Abstract:  This is a compilation of manuscript and printed items, with some extensive annotations by Parker on the published items. There are various editions of the "Army Register," or "Register of the Army of the U.S.," from 1813-1816, published both in Washington and Philadelphia, with Parker's corrections, additions, and manuscript versions appended. Some of the volumes contain printed regulations, orders, and laws, with his annotations, such as "An Act for Establishing Rules & Articles . . . of the Armies of the U.S." (Washington, 1808); General orders, 1815; U.S. War dept. Letter from the Secretary of war...relative to the...act fixing the military peace establishment... 1816; U.S. Congress. House. Military Committee. Report...1817; U.S. War dept. Letter from the acting Secretary of war...relative to a mutiny said to have taken place at Norfolk...1817. The contents of "U.S. Army Registers, Regulations, Orders, etc., 1801-1815" are listed as: strength of the army; distribution of the officers; commanders of regiments; number of officers authorized by law; strength of regiments; distribution of the army at the close of the war; strength of the army in 1817; a correct register of the army...at the close of the campaign of 1814; regulations, orders, registers, and reports to Congress; etc.

Prepared by Jefferson for U.S. ministers at Paris and Madrid, as a means of determining the extent of the Louisiana Purchase. Jefferson sent these to the APS with a cover letter to Peter S. Du Ponceau, dated December 30, 1817; read in the Historical and Literary Committee, 1818.  Abstract:  Born May 26, 1750, to the niece of Benjamin Franklin, Jonathan Williams was a prominent merchant, scientist and soldier. Elected to the APS in 1787 as a result of his observations on temperature and barometrical readings, as well as work on sugar production, Williams had a distinguished military career highlighted by his appointment as first superintendent of the Military Academy at West Point. The Jonathan Williams Papers consists of 46 letters and documents, written by or to Jonathan Williams Sr. and Jr., dealing primarily with financial and legal matters. The collection includes five letters written by Benjamin Franklin and many of the others are signed by Williams' father-in-law and brother-in-law, William and Robert Alexander.

 Abstract:  Captain William Scott (b.1752) was a company commander in the British 17th Regiment of Foot. He participated in many battles and campaigns during the American Revolutionary War, including the Philadelphia campaign. This three-page memorandum describes the events leading up to, and the conduct of, the Battle of Germantown, on October 4, 1777.
