Yell, Archibald (1797-1847)
Soldier, congressman.
Correspondence, 1836-1847. 10 pp. Carbon.

This correspondence is between Yell, William Moore, and James Knox Polk. The contents (1836-1839) relate to politics in Arkansas and the U.S. There are letters (1847) from Yell while serving in the Mexican War and some accounts of his death there.

Young, Aaron, Jr. (1819-1898)
Botanist, physician, diplomat.
Papers, ca. 1839-1894. ca. 350 items.

Primarily a collection of letters, with some additional documents concerning Young's interest in botany, geology, mineralogy, and natural history. There is information about Bowdoin College, where he studied under Parker Cleaveland. There is also much on the natural history of Maine, where he was State Botanist in 1847-1849, and also on the Bangor Natural History Society. There are data on Brazil, in relation to his service there as the U.S. consul to Rio Grande do Sul, 1863-1873. There are also letters from his brother and sister, John C. Young, and Sarah Augusta Young. Correspondents include:
