 Abstract:  This large, bound volume contains seven Kaqchikel sermons delivered by Antonio Saz. A gift from the Academy of the Sciences in Guatemala in 1836, the sermons lend insight into sixteenth century religion in Latin America. The manuscript is calligraphy is very well done. The Kaqchikel are an ethnic group of the Mayans.

 Abstract:  This collection contains a number of musical compositions by Madame Anne Louise Boyvin d’Hardancourt Brillon de Juoy, a prominent Parisian salon hostess and musician. Her most famous composition, Le Marche des Insurgents, which was inspired by the American victory at Saratoga, is included in this collection. Many of these compositions are handwritten and appear to be from the eighteenth century, although it is unclear when they were written and who wrote them.

 Abstract:  This large collection contains the family papers of the Scaligers, a prominent French family that eventually immigrated to Philadelphia in the mid-nineteenth century. The collection contains a wealth of information on the history and genealogy of this family. Some of the documents date to the fifteenth century. There is a notable amount of documents from the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. The portion of the collection from the earlier period is mostly composed of legal documents. The nineteenth century documents are mostly correspondence. All of the documents appear to be in French or Latin. Most of these documents are beyond the scope of the early American guide, but there are some documents from Santo Domingo that relate to the family’s interest in a slave plantation there.

 Abstract:  J. Stephen Catlett wrote of the Miscellaneous Manuscripts collection that “there is no other way to describe these manuscript letters, essays, and other papers that are contained presently in 49 boxes.” Catlett then listed a random assortment of names of authors found in the collection. Each individual item was catalogued in the card catalogue, but his data has now been put online. Rather than try to replicate that data, this entry will focus on some of the main themes of the collection and some of the most notable documents.
