 Abstract:  The Thomas Lloyd Collection is a slender volume that is part account book, part notebook, part commonplace book, and part diary. Although its cover describes it as a “letter book,” there are only a few copies of letters inside. Llyod was the first recorder of Congress, who later found himself imprisoned in Newgate Prison in London for debt. This volume covers Lloyd’s period in London, as he failed in his publishing ventures and spent time in prison. Among the items recorded was a proposal to develop textile manufacturing in the United States. There are also examples of shorthand.

 Abstract:  Adam Seybert's large commonplace book captures his varied interests. Seybert was an American engineer who was educated in Europe. The content often reflects his interests in engineering and current affairs, such as notes on canals or on population growth. Among other things discussed are: cotton policy, American independence, profiles of individuals, descriptions of foreign countries and cities, and the military. Included in the book is a watercolor of Quebec with details on the Battle of Abraham in 1759. Much of the data is taken from other sources, and Seybert often cites where he got the information.

 Abstract:  Nathan Sellers was a prominent engineer who specialized in the papermaking industry in Philadelphia. This collection of his papers consists of a variety of documents related to his life and career. It includes two volumes of commonplace books, a notebook he kept while serving in the Philadelphia Common Council, records of his early work as a surveyor, and an assortment of financial and business records.
